From VPN to Zero Trust:
Securing Hybrid Work
A leading energy company was quickly adopting a hybrid work model with teams, mobile users, and third-party vendors located in various places. However, its traditional VPN-based remote access could no longer meet today’s security, performance, and scalability needs. To solve this issue, the company collaborated with Orbit Techsol. We implemented a modern access framework that combined Zero Trust Access (ZTA) and Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI). This setup enabled secure, policy-driven remote access and improved user experience while simplifying endpoint management.

Client Background
The client is a large company in the energy sector with operations spread across various locations, including field teams and numerous third-party vendors. The organization handles sensitive operational and business data. It uses a mix of old and new applications to support its critical infrastructure. With remote and hybrid work becoming necessary, it prioritized secure and controlled access to systems without interrupting productivity.
The Challenge
-
Traditional login-based access did not protect against credential theft and post-login threats.
-
VPN performance worsened as hybrid work and remote users increased.
-
External vendors accessed systems without proper isolation or clear policies.
-
A wide variety of unmanaged devices made security and compliance harder to handle.

The Result
By combining the principles of Zero Trust with the flexibility of Virtual Desktop Infrastructure, the client confidently redefined its remote access approach. This solution not only improved security but also made management easier, boosted user productivity, and ensured business continuity across different environments. This project shows that secure digital transformation is possible when strategy, technology, and execution work well together.
